Coach Fitzgerald, originally from Mobile, AL, has resided on the MS Coast for two years. Joining Surge for the first time this year, she eagerly anticipates imparting her expertise as the club's master trainer.
With a background rooted in Gulf Coast volleyball, Coach Fitzgerald boasts six years of club volleyball experience in Mobile and the Eastern Shore. During her playing years, her club team clinched the Gulf Coast Region Championship and participated in USAV Nationals twice. Additionally, she contributed one year to High Performance for the Gulf Coast Region. At McGill Toolen Catholic High School, Coach Fitzgerald excelled over four years, earning accolades such as All-Region and All-Area 1st Team, while serving as team captain her senior year.
A notable aspect of Coach Fitzgerald's journey is her early introduction to volleyball, having learned to set a volleyball at the tender age of three. Growing up in a volleyball-centric household, with volleyball discussions dominating the dinner table, she inherited a passion for coaching from her father and older sister, both volleyball coaches themselves. Her coaching journey began in high school, assisting her father with the middle school team post-practices, honing her coaching skills.
Transitioning from player to coach after her senior high school season, Coach Fitzgerald embarked on a coaching career spanning twelve seasons of club volleyball. Her 2024 14U club team secured second place at the Gulf Coast Region Championships and earned a coveted bid to USAV Nationals in Las Vegas. Beyond club volleyball, she has dedicated five years to coaching middle school and high school volleyball teams, including serving as varsity assistant coach at PCS in 2015, where the team secured a 2nd place finish in the MAIS state tournament. In 2016, she assumed the role of JV head coach and varsity assistant at Oak Grove High School, guiding the team to the state championship game.
Currently in her second season as Head Volleyball Coach at Gulfport High School, Coach Fitzgerald enjoys her leisure time indulging in reading and spending quality moments with her husband, Jacob, and their dog, Snoopy. She eagerly anticipates collaborating with Surge's athletes, fostering their passion for the game while nurturing their skills.
